Once, years ago, when I walked into a hotel and asked to book a room for about four hours I received an old-fashioned look which said: “Wahay, we know your game”. Everyone assumes you’re after a furtive bunk-up, procured or adulterous. (I needed it for work, honestly. I’m too boring for the other.)

But now, apparently, it’s becoming common for married couples to book a room for half a day to “spice up romance after lockdown”. It’s being called a “daycation”, which once meant a trip to Blackpool but is now a micro mini-break where frustrated couples make full use of the Do Not Disturb sign.
